Goldbelt’s Stacie Tunison Nominated for Prestigious DAISY Award

Goldbelt proudly recognizes Stacie Tunison for her recent DAISY Award nomination. The DAISY Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in the nursing field. Stacie is a compassionate and dedicated Labor & Delivery Nurse at Misawa Air Base in Japan. She serves under the United States Air Force Medical Services contract, where she is supervised by Program Manager Jen Juliano. Her nomination marks a significant milestone, not just in her career, but in her lifelong journey of serving others through nursing.

For Stacie, nursing has always been more than a job; it’s a calling that began when she was just 16 when she became a first responder. At 29, reading an ad for nursing school in her local paper sparked a desire she could no longer ignore. “Become a Nurse!” the ad read; she applied and never looked back. She often jokes that nursing is perfect for her, she gets to wear pajamas, share her knowledge, and care deeply for others every single day.

She was able to pursue nursing, following her passion for helping others, while keeping her close to the mountains she loves. Stacie is known by her friends and coworkers as an avid snowboarder and traveler, but at her core she is driven by empathy, purpose, fueled by the memory of her late mother—who loved to share her story of childbirth.

Growing up as an only child, her birthdays were filled with love, marked each year by her mom’s retelling of the cherished day Stacie was born. Her mother also took immense pride in pinning her at her nursing graduation. Her mother’s pride and love continue to inspire her. “Every patient deserves to love their birth story as much as my mom loved mine,” Stacie shares.

After nine years in Labor & Delivery, being nominated for a DAISY Award—especially at the launch of Misawa’s new program—has been a life-affirming experience. “To be seen in this way, by a patient I cared for, is something I will carry with me forever,” she says. “This one’s for you, Mom.”
